About
UUID Lotto is a game of chance (quite slim to be honest). One random UUID is drawn each day at 18:00 UTC. Your ticket is a UUID too, and the game is to see how close to a collision you can get.
Credit to Pekkis for coming up with this idea years ago.
How the draw works
The winning UUID comes from drand, a public randomness beacon. Nobody, us included, can know it before tickets close, and anyone can recompute it.
The odds
A ticket scores one point for every character in the same place as the draw. 32 characters, but 13 and 17 are set by the UUID format, so 30 count. A full match, a UUID collision, is 1 in 5.3 times 10 to the power of 36.
When two tickets match the same number of characters, the one with more matching bits ranks higher. If the bits are level too, they share the place.
